Competent Connections, LLC
Enriching lives through meaningful relationships
About Us
The primary focus of services at Competent Connections is the Relationship Development Intervention® Program (RDI®).  The RDI® Program is an intensive program designed to empower families.  The program utilizes RDI® principles to provide an effective, long-term remediation treatment for children with Autism.  Application of the principles learned through consultation will allow families to enhance communication and increase the quality of the relationship with their child.

Amy Ruane, M.S., Ed.S., is a Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®) Program Consultant-in-Training in private practice who specializes in educating, treating, and training families, children, adolescents and adults on the Autism Spectrum and other individuals who work with them.  She provides office, home, community, and school-based consultation and training.  In 2008, Amy won the Professional Disability Advocate of the Year Award from the Disability Action Center and the Idaho School Psychologist Association Distinguished Service Award.

Amy is an accomplished School Psychologist and Consultant with over 9 years experience providing direct services to individuals on the autism spectrum and related disorders and consultation and training to parents, educators, and private practitioners.  She is a respected presenter and currently provides consultation services to several school districts throughout the Pacific Northwest.  Amy specializes in program development for children on the Autism Spectrum, professional training in the areas of Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disabilities, and Moderate and Severe Learning needs.  She also conducts training for school and agency staff and designs training based on staff needs.

Competent Connections, located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is dedicated to providing support and services to individuals on the Autism Spectrum and the people who care for and about them.  It is the mission of Competent Connections to improve the quality of life for individuals on the Autism Spectrum and their families in a respectful atmosphere.

We believe that a child's most important relationship is their relationship with their parents.  Critical life and relationship skills are developed through interaction with parents.  Information processing issues in Autism disrupt this developmental phase and impedes a child's ability to learn social competence.  Most of the work at Competent Connections involves intensive parent training and coaching in order to successfully remediate the developmental process.  We work with individuals from the ages of 2 to adulthood.

Competent Connections provides support to individual families, agencies, and schools throughout the Pacific Northwest.
